- 8 oz penne pasta
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 lb beef sausage (crumbled, casing removed if needed)
- 1/2 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 cup tomato sauce
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
- Fresh basil for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook the penne pasta according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the crumbled beef sausage and ground beef, breaking it apart as it cooks. Brown for about 8-10 minutes.
- Add onion and garlic to the pan and sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, oregano, and red pepper flakes (if using). Season with salt and pepper to taste. Let it simmer for 10 minutes.
- Combine pasta and meat sauce in a large mixing bowl, then transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish.
- Top with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Bake for 20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish with fresh basil before serving.
